I like to go to department stores and pick out the furniture I would buy if we lived together.
Have you ever been listening to a song and realize that it's so totally and completely about you that you just slide off the bed onto the floor in front of the record player, and you lie there until it's time to turn the album over, and as you do this, you do it frantically but carefully, because you want so badly to find out what other feelings you have that someone else understands and you're afraid if you smudge the record you will never find out, and when you do turn it over, all the music is your life, and you cannot think of doing anything but staying like this forever with the rain bouncing off the big bay window and the flowers in their vase on the sill, and when the record finally ends, the distance from where you are to where the bedroom door looks like it stretches so far that you could never walk all that way and you will have to stay inside forever, and when you stand up to slide the album back in its cover you see your face reflected on it, and you think once again how this music is exactly you, and you never want to lose it, and once the record is back on the shelf you want to go to the person who bought it for you and thank them a thousand times, but you can't, because you haven't even been able to find them for a whole week so you just whisper the words "thank-you" and go get dressed because people are coming over soon and you have to try and act normal?
